cleaning your spa

Cleanliness is the path to greater relaxation. It's a fact, when you establish a proper cleaning and maintenance routine for your spa or hot tub, you can prevent filter problems, murky water and reduced effectiveness of spa care products. Here's a simple guide you can follow to keep your spa or hot tub in check-and you relaxed:

  1. Remove any debris from the water to avoid staining and bacteria contamination.
  2. Brush any loose dirt on spa walls toward the bottom drain (if so equipped).
  3. Clean spa surfaces and water line residue with a surface cleaner formulated for pool/spa tile and vinyl surfaces (never on wooden hot tubs.) Avoid using household cleaners, scouring powders or other abrasives on acrylic or fiberglass surfaces.
  4. Clean or hose down the spa decking to keep dirt out of the spa.
  5. Check the filter regularly for proper operation. Check the filter medium for scale, grease and oil build-up that can cause clogging. Backwash/clean the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions. Clean the filter medium with a filter cleaner as needed (at least once every six weeks). Replace the filter medium if necessary.
  6. Test the water for proper water levels and adjust as needed.
